NFL Charities funds study of brain’s wiring after concussions

Neurologists at the School of Medicine have received funding to study the brain following repeat concussions. The project is one of 15 around the country selected by NFL Charities, the charitable foundation of the National Football League Owners.

Glassberg family gift establishes endowed professorship for I-CARES directorship

Himadri Pakrasi, PhD, director of WUSTL’s International Center for Advanced Renewable Energy and Sustainability (I-CARES), has become the inaugural holder of the Myron and Sonya Glassberg/Albert and Blanche Greensfelder Distinguished University Professorship.

A Woman’s Club welcome

The Washington University Woman’s Club held an introductory luncheon Sept. 14. The Woman’s Club offers WUSTL women and women friends of the university opportunities to form friendships and grow intellectually through luncheons, lectures, tours and programs. The club, which celebrated its centennial in 2010, also funds scholarships for deserving University College students.

Employer-employee relationships much more nuanced than law assumes, Crain says

Workers pour sweat, blood and even dollars into the firms that employ them, especially in a labor market characterized by employment and retirement insecurity, says Marion Crain, JD,  professor of law. Crain suggests looking at legal models such as marriage law to more accurately respond to the realities of the employment relationship, particularly at termination.

Putterman defends title

Senior Adam Putterman defended his ITA/USTA Central Region Men’s Tennis Singles Championship with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Paul Burgin of Kenyon College Sept. 24.
Putterman won seven singles matches in straight sets in four days to keep the crown.
